Originally from Southeast Pennsylvania, Hannah Ashburn (she/her) is a visual artist, fiber artist, and educator in Lincoln, Nebraska. Hannah received her Bachelors of Art in Studio Art from Union College and since her graduation in 2017 has been part of the Noyes Art Gallery and the Lincoln art market scene. Hannah has taken some graduate level learning in Art History at UNL, and her love and research of alternative art spaces and art made outside of the conventional school/museum setting led her to a career as an Art Instructor at Live Yes Studios. Ashburn works as the Fiber Arts instructor there and encourages a setting to play and make mistakes and find adaptive ways of learning. Hannah enjoys collecting trash (treasures) she finds on her walks to the bus, drinking strong coffee, writing poetry, and spending time with her partner Kaymon and cat Squid.
Her most recent body of work explores the dichotomy of the mundane and the extraordinary. Hannah uses a mix of cotton, wool, and acrylic tufted yarn to create mixed media fiber pieces. Her use of abstract color and texture conveys themes of domestic labor, personal mental illness, and intimate moments of euphoria. Personal poetry is the springboard for most of her compositions and tailored color palettes emphasize each theme.
